Women's Equality Day

In the early 19th century, American women, who generally couldn’t inherit property and made half of a man’s wages in any available jobs, began organizing to demand political rights and representation. Eventually in 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was adopted, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.
