Fall has arrived in all it’s glory, and so has the Pumpkin Pie Chai Rooibos Tea! I’m a seasonal girl through and through. So, when I got wind of this glorious blend that’s only created once a year, I promptly clickety clacked my keyboard, hit submit, and proceeded to impatiently await its arrival. However, all good things come to those who wait and it wasn’t long. Upon opening my lovely little tin, I took my time processing the smells. Is it the cardamon? The licorice root? Perhaps, it’s the honeybush tea base? I couldn’t identify one specific ingredient which is a testament to the cohesiveness of this blend. I promptly plucked a piece of pumpkin for a taste test and it was sweet yet subtle, reminding me a bit of apple. One of the things that I love about loose leaf tea are all the chunkies. I also love having more control over my steep time and measurements, being a little heavy handed with both. I steeped 2 1/2 tsp of tea with 9 oz of water for 15 minutes. My first sip was without cream and all the flavors came through beautifully. Next, I added a little cream which really gives the chai spices some punch. I had high expectations for this blend and it did not disappoint. All the fall feels - warmth, comfort and flavor were there. As one who is fixated on all the caffeine things, I was a little hesitant to try a Rooibos tea. However, I do believe I’ve just “upgraded my ticket” with this blend, and absolutely plan on swapping it out for my afternoon fix. At least, until I run out. Note to Old Barrel Tea Company, send more!
