Black iced tea was sweetened, decorated with lemons and enjoyed on breezy afternoons from the front porch!
February is often associated with romantic love, but this month we celebrated love in all its beautiful forms: loving your partner, your children, your friends, your neighbors, and yourself! Something we LOVE about tea is that it is unifying - it is something we share with those we love to elevate our wellness, soothe our minds, and strengthen our bonds. Check out how tea has been unifying us throughout history. ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎
People consume tea irrespective of class, race, creed or religion all over the world. In the social setting of drinking tea together an opportunity to find common ground awaits. After all, humans have more in common with each other than we think.Â
The practice of drinking tea together originated thousands of years ago in Southeast Asia, where green tea was placed in the center of a sitting area and people would gather around and simply sit, not talk, and just enjoy the presence of each other. Green tea quickly gained traction and was an instant hit as it migrated west, and soon enough the practice of enjoying tea with each other adapted to cultural norms all over the world.Â
The concept of "tea-time" became popularized, especially in the UK where the ritual of getting dolled up for a lavish tea party started. Black tea became popular during this time period and taking tea soon became a way of life, and the national breakfast drink! Care for a spot of tea, love?
Tea made a big splash coming to America - literally, into the harbor! Just as tea protests became the political strong arm against taxation, harvesting wild herb tisanes fed America's deep longing for the brew. While locally grown chamomile and peppermint became popular, smugglers brought over the beverage, which became a symbol of southern hospitality - black tea!Â
